"History proves the love the Lord has for
His people and His willingness and
ability to lead them to a promised land"
~Read the account of Joshua and the crossing of the river Jordan in Joshua 3 and 4.
As the miracle occurred, the Lord instructed Joshua to have twelve men each haul "upon his shoulder" a stone from the riverbed, to be used to erect a monument to the event on the other side of Jordan. As they experienced this added burden, some may have questioned the Lord: Could we not set up a monument with stones from the far side of the river and still remember the journey? What was the purpose of this extra burden?
Once they reached the other side of the river, Joshua has the twelve stones placed together as a memorial. "And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come saying, Israel came over this dry land...That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is might". These twelve men left a legacy to their families for generations to come of their testimony of the Lord and the great power He has to bless His people.
~Either figuratively or literally, gather twelve stones. Assign each stone to represent a blessing that you have recognized in your journey toward Christ.
~Share these blessings with your family. Testify how you are coming to know the Healer, the Master, the Son of God, even Jesus Christ. What are the stories you can tell about how He has strengthened, enlightened, comforted, or otherwise blessed you?
